We love babies! So, when our firefighter friend Courtney visited us with her family and the new baby, we took the opportunity to do a quick holiday portrait session. Brennan was very cooperative! He did not like the idea of wearing a Christmas Stocking so much (I wouldn’t too!)! But, he gave us many fun images. Here are some of our favorites…

Holiday is a great time for family portraits. We will be posting images of our holiday portrait sessions soon…

We recently photographed the newly renovated DoubleTree on Hillsborough Street – known as the Brownstone in Raleigh, NC.   It is conveniently located in Downtown Raleigh, and is very close to NC State University.  Last year, I had posted images of a beautiful walima which I had photographed at this hotel. In April, I will be photographing an elaborate Indian wedding there. I look forward to it!

Rachel and Dale had originally planned their wedding on the beach!  Can you imagine seeing this on the radar two days before your wedding ~

But, when Hurricane Irene invited herself as a wedding guest without an invitation, they had to go to Plan B. Their family in Raleigh came to their aid and  created a beautiful, intimate wedding to remember. The wedding took place at a private home in North Raleigh. Mica and I were available that weekend, it was the first weekend we had expected to be off in months but were SO honored to be part of this very special day. Mica photographed the wedding while I captured and edited the video. Here are some of our favorite images and a short video clip.

Enjoy!

Trusha and Anjan’s Indian wedding events lasted for few days and then it was time for the party! I had very little time to download the ceremony images and get my gear ready for reception at the Hotel Renaissance. Katen Shah (Elegant Designz) transformed the ballroom into an amazing reception venue. DJ Rang created lighting  for the reception as well. And as you can see from some of the images, lighting can make a big difference! I started the evening by capturing beautiful decorations. Once Trusha and Anjan were ready (Trusha’s Hair and Makeup was by The Luxe Group), I did a mini portrait session. There was plenty of food and the guests enjoyed dancing to DJ Rang’s music. A great DJ makes the party! And for us photographers, this presents many photo opportunities. The after party was at a local North Hills pub. And it was time for me to head home. Couple of more weddings and then it will be busy corporate and holiday season. We have done quite a few holiday portrait sessions this year.  I hope to post those soon…

The big day! I had photographed Trusha and Anjan’s Indian wedding events since Wednesday. This was the grand finale! I started the day by capturing Trusha’s hair and makeup session at the Hotel Renaissance. The hair and makeup service was provided by the Luxe Group. My associate photographer Matt Williams captured Groom’s events happening at the same time. Katen Shah (Elegant Designz) had turned ballroom into a beautiful wedding venue. DJ Rang provided lighting as well as music for the ceremony. And as always, it was fun working with wedding priest Pravin Shukla. Great team of vendors! After capturing the decorations, it was time for a quick family portraits session. And then it was baraat time! Groom arrived on a horse-drawn carriage.

The ceremony was full of tears, laughter, religious and social rituals. The food was great (it was Gujarati food, after all!). And then there was the game of Eki-Beki!  The groom’s family hosted this game. I did bride and groom’s portrait session at the North Hills.  North Hills is one of our favorite places. My paintings have won top honors in couple of plein air painting competitions there. Lately I have done corporate event photography at the Hotel Renaissance as well.

It was time for a little break. While Katen Shah’s crew turned ballroom into the reception venue, I worked on downloading ceremony images and charging batteries. The cocktail hour will begin soon!

A beautiful October wedding! At a lovely venue- St. Mary’s Chapel in Raleigh. Several months ago, I had done a live wedding painting there. That was A Southern Soiree wedding as well! Courtney was a beautiful bride. I enjoyed working with this couple. Started the photography with formal images of the bride and bridesmaids. The ceremony was in the evening. More formal images followed the ceremony. And a quick portrait session of the bride and groom. The reception was at the Wake County Shrine Club. Shrine Club is a spacious venue- last year I had photographed an Indian wedding there. The evening entertainment was provided by A Touch of Class Dj’s. Kailey of A Southern Soiree was a huge help throughout the day and evening. Read her post on this wedding on the Southern Soiree blog. Courtney and Jordan made an exit with shower of flower petals. A beautiful way to end their special day…

My friends and I came together today for a social media meeting and one of the topics was professional head shots.  They all remembered that on Twitter, if you don’t have a head shot or you load some photo or cartoon, that you have an egg as a profile picture….and they all started laughing about how nobody wants to be an egg…really, they don’t!  They told me that I  should immediately write a blog about NOT BEING AN EGG!  I told them I would get right on it!

You see, for me, I don’t follow anyone that doesn’t use a head shot of some sort or the other.  Why would you not want your photo, one that is recent, on your social media page, especially Linked In?  I understand that this is a great place to put your logo, but people don’t do business with your logo…..they do business with you.

Why would you not get an updated professional photo of yourself…what could be their reason?   A lot of people think that what they have from several years ago is fine.  It’s not.  Some people think that the photo that they took of themselves in their bathroom, in a reflection from their mirror is cool….I would rather see the egg.   Kids and pets are cute from time to time, but making sure to have that professional head shot shown more than not is so important.

When we,  IWP Photography & Video shoot professional head shot sessions, there are normally 2 people working with the client.  You will have your own photographer, and the photographer will have an assistant.  The assistant’s job is to make sure that the client is all set and ready for the shoot.  We send out a note before the head shots normally to make sure the client knows how to be ready when they get here….why, because the longer the client stands around when they get here, normally the more nervous they get while they wait and it makes it harder for everyone.

We have some fun music on, we talk to them about their job and before you know it, we have amazing head shots for them to see.

Time and time again, we hear, how did you capture that?  I didn’t even feel like I had my photo taken.  Now why would you not get your head shot taken regularly if you had that kind of experience.  For us, we enjoy it so much that it is not even like work.  I think that comes through to.

So, to finish up….if you are concerned about your experience in getting a new head shot, consider how IWP Photography handles their head shot clients.  Don’t be an EGG when you could be photographed so that when you walk into a room…..people already know you….trust me, it is priceless!

Hey, take a moment and fill out this poll for me….I have never done one of these before.

DJ Rang and DJ Kenz provided the entertainment for the evening. There was the raas and then the dandiya. The food was delicious! A great evening!
